New Harmony

New Harmony, Indiana at night. December 2024

Imagine this... the scene unfolds in December in a charming small town in America. The streets are adorned with festive holiday decorations, and each shop has decorated its entrance with cheerful decor, inviting you to step inside and explore. Snow blankets the landscape and rooftops, reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting. The gentle sound of Christmas music fills the air as locals zip around town in their golf carts. It marks the beginning of another enchanting Hallmark movie. But this isn't a movie; it's New Harmony, Indiana.

New Harmony is a National Historic Landmark District established in 1814 along the Wabash River in Posey County, Indiana. This picturesque town, home to fewer than 1,000 residents, is rich in history. Discover more about New Harmony's fascinating past here.

New Harmony is more than just a vacation spot; it's a town that must be experienced firsthand to truly appreciate its charm.

Let me to share a bit about my trip to illustrate why New Harmony should top your travel bucket list.

I was fortunate to meet Mary Beth Guard in April 2024 at a PINK Creatives event. I had no idea that this brief encounter would lead to such an incredible experience.

Fast forward to November 2024. My phone chimes {and, of course, I quickly check it} to find a message from Mary Beth asking if I would be interested in discussing potential collaboration opportunities. Absolutely, Mary Beth, I would LOVE to! A few weeks later, I found myself boarding a plane to New Harmony.

Now, you might be wondering why I boarded a plane to visit a woman with whom I only had

Mary Beth Guard & Janet Price.

a brief chat. Let me tell you why. First, Mary Beth's captivating description of New Harmony sparked my curiosity, and I needed to experience it firsthand. Second, her ideas, energy, and enthusiasm were contagious, and I sensed this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And indeed, it was.

Mary Beth and Michael Guard have achieved many things, and being “hosts with the most” is certainly at the top! I felt right at home. And what a spectacular home it is... Evansville Living refers to it as “The House of Hues” and I wholeheartedly agree.

It is a spectacular home filled with beautiful art and fanciful furniture. The grand windows offer a bird's eye view of New Harmony, which is nothing short of magical. If you don't feel a sense of joy when you arrive at the Guard’s home, you will by the time you leave!

We spent two days tooling around town in Harmon {the golf cart}, visiting some of the gems that make New Harmony magical, and we spent a lot of time in Capers Emporium...a kitchen and gift adventure.

To tell you I was in my element is an understatement. While I was there they baked 1000 cookies {I even got to ice a few}, hosted guests from a tour for National Cookie Day, welcomed numerous holiday shoppers and prepared for the annual Christmas festivities!

I met people from all walks of life—both locals and newcomers. Each one echoed the same sentiment: New Harmony is life-changing, and you'll want to make it your home. I've traveled to many places in my life, but none have had such a profound impact on everyone who calls it home.

This is just a tiny glimpse of New Harmony. I haven’t told you about the Firefly Festival, the Labyrinths, The Roofless Church, the lavender farm, Meet in the Street, the glass fusion classes {another Mary Beth & Michael endevor} and the list goes on.

“It's a special place for creative inspiration, generating big ideas, contemplating life decisions, reflecting on life changes, getting grounded, healing, and celebrating. A visit here can be life-changing.” from visitnewharmony.com

New Harmony is truly enchanting, and Mary Beth embodies that magic.

New Harmony showed me the essence of community, while Mary Beth rejuvenated my self-confidence and demonstrates the incredible power of shaping the life you desire.

If you are looking for a slice of American history and a place to rekindle your sense of good in the world...visit New Harmony, Indiana and discover the magic for yourself. Don’t forget to stop by Capers Emporium and see Mary Beth!
